In search of some heavenly smells? Then Seven Dials has fragrance stores par excellence in abundance, for her and him. Let your nose lead the way.
Established in Grasse, the capital of perfumery on the French Riviera, Le Labo founders, Edouard Roschi and Fabrice Penot, pride themselves on uniquely fresh handmade perfumes. The core of the collection features 15 unisex perfumes and 11 city exclusive fragrances, using the highest quality ingredients created by ‘some of the world’s best noses’. The top perfumes of the moment are Santal 33, Thé Noir 29 and Bergamote 22. Edouard and Fabrice believe ‘there are too many bottles of perfume and not enough soulful fragrances.’ You can tell they put a lot of love into their products. They also believe fine perfumery must ‘create a shock - the shock of the new, combined with the shock of the intimately familiar’. New for spring sees the arrival of Le Labo’s ‘Body, Face, Hair’ collection of potions, lotions, scrubs, gels and oils. Simply divine.

Straight out of New York City, Malin+Goetz is a family-owned luxury fragrance and skincare company for women and men. You enter the striking Monmouth Street shop from a black velvet lined tunnel, which enhances the retail theatre you are about to succumb to through the power of smell. Co-founder, Andrew Goetz, says: “We specialise in taking classic scents and reinterpreting them in a modern way. We are different in that we always create scents that we personally love and wear – not what the trend is dictating. So our passion is infused in each scent.” Currently popular are the cheekily named Cannabis Eau de Parfum and the Dark Rum Eau De Toilette. Goetz says his personal favourite at the moment is Vetiver Eau De Parfum because he likes its grassy and smoky aroma. Smelling is believing.

Miller Harris is a London-based fragrance brand established by British Master perfumer, Lynn Harris, in 2000, as one of the first of the new wave of niche perfumers. The aim has always been to bring life and colour into the classic perfumer's art, taking inspiration from the less obvious to create striking and contemporary fragrances. The brand remains rooted in the provenance of French perfumery, using a natural palette of raw materials. It’s recognised as having high levels of natural ingredients delivered with an unexpected twist, creating beauty from the ordinary. Miller Harris works with a number of ‘Master Perfumers’, each chosen for their passion to push the boundaries of perfumery. Brand new for 2018 comes two new Eau de Parfums, ‘Scherzo’ and ‘Tender’. They really don’t come more special than this, and the visually stunning shop with its ‘Stay in Bed’ neon sign draws you in before your senses can be realised.
