My Seven Dials

Nick Gordon-Harris, Manager Of Carharrt, Earlham Street, Slices Up Seven Dials And Serves You A Piece

January 2011

What's your favourite place in Seven Dials to shop?

Can I say Carhartt, or is that really unoriginal!? In all honesty, I do regularly shop at Carhartt for clothing because I find that they strike a great balance between cut and quality, so that everything lasts – you don’t put it in the wash only to find it shrinks after five wears!

The great thing about Seven Dials though, is that there’s something for everyone - there’s so much choice. But, if it counts I think I spend most of my time ‘shopping’ at Candy Cakes! Just when I think they can’t do anything else with dough – they seem to surprise me! I'd love to say I treat the team at Carhartt, but truthfully I just end up demolishing them all myself!

What's your favourite eatery and watering hole in Seven Dials?

Without a doubt Belgo Centraal. It combines the décor of a primary school and industrial factory, randomly! The service is absolutely amazing - the staff are always polite and go out of their way to help you. For example, I’m not a big drinker, but I’ve noticed how much care they take when selecting the appropriate wines and drinks for your meal, which really adds to the experience. Overall, it’s just fair prices, great food and a really nice place to go.

What makes Seven Dials so special for you?

Well, when I was really young, I used to work at the Carhartt branch next to Offspring and as two stores we were really close. In the summer-time, we used to all meet and just chill out together; go for a few drinks in the area and just have a great time – we did that most of the summer! So, Seven Dials has some really great memories for me.

I’m not young enough to go out every night anymore! But, a good rapport remains between stores and a sense of community at Seven Dials that is special, I think.
