My Seven Dials
Jack McCombe, an Account Executive at a local PR agency, shares his Slice of Seven Dials
July 2011
What's your favourite place in Seven Dials to shop?
Carharrt on Earlham Street is a favourite of mine. They are great for basics like a sturdy pair of jeans. I also like Super Superficial which is just over the road from Carharrt – they have some edgy and individual t-shirts. Ultimately I like stylish clothing that’s wearable, and that’s where these two stores stand out. Unconditional+ on Monmouth Street is great for finding something a bit smarter, say for a night out.
What's your favourite eatery or watering hole in Seven Dials?
After work, I often head to The Crown for a quick pint with friends. It’s a good meeting spot, as it overlooks the Seven Dials monument so whichever direction you’re coming from, you know where to head and is also good for people watching – especially all the pretty girls who work in the Seven Dials stores. When I’m feeling flush, Hawksmoor, have the best steaks I’ve ever tasted and their famous cocktail list washes it down nicely. But I’ve also been to Souk Medina once, and I really liked it there. Hidden underneath Seven Dials, it’s a warm atmosphere with great food and friendly staff. I’ve heard the belly-dancer is pretty good entertainment too!
What makes Seven Dials so special for you?
It’s a bit of a hidden gem really, close to Oxford Street and Tottenham Court Road but never too busy or crowded. It’s also very close to where I work, so it’s nice on a Summer’s day to pop down to grab a bite to eat or go for a stroll – there’s a great atmosphere in the area which you don’t often find anywhere else. Plus it’s variety all conveniently located in one area, which is great when you’re in a hurry and need to find quality items, fast – gifts for forgotten birthdays, for example!
