My Seven Dials

Alan Frew, Store Manager At G-Star, Shares His Slice of Seven Dials

August 2011

What's your favourite place in Seven Dials to shop?

My favourite place to shop in Seven Dials – other than G-Star of course - is probably Urban Outfitters on Neal Street. Not only do they have a HUGE range of stylish clothes but also a really great range of quirky lifestyle pieces hidden at the back of the store. I recently bought a retro camera from there with a built in wide angle lens that uses film for £65 - bargain! Besides the brand, it’s also a cool old building with loads of character much like a few of the buildings in Seven Dials. Plus the customer service is great in Urban Outfitters, the guys that work there are always really nice to chat to.

What's your favourite eatery or watering hole in Seven Dials?

My eatery of choice is the No1 Cafe on Earlham Street, I eat there nearly every day. It’s a small, local cafe with all kinds of food available including sandwiches, wraps, burritos, cake, paninis and salads. It’s not just the variety that’s great though, the prices are awesome and the staff in there are always chatty and welcoming, which keeps me heading back.

What makes Seven Dials so special for you?

My favourite thing about the Seven Dials is, without a doubt, the level of service you get as opposed to the main high street stores or tourist hot-spots. In Seven Dials we’re tucked away, quieter and for want of a better word 'cooler'. It’s got a great village vibe and there’s always lots to discover as you really need to hunt around our stores if you want the product. It enables us to spend more time with the customers in the store to give a real one-to-one personal service. Seven Dials is a community too, lots of the local business owners regularly meet up after work for drinks. So for me, Seven Dials is easily one of the friendliest shopping areas in London and that’s what makes it special.
