My Seven Dials

Katie Tume, Therapy Rooms Area Manager for Neal's Yard Remedies, Shares Her Slice of Seven Dials

August 2011

What's your favourite place in Seven Dials to shop?

It has to be a draw between the Dover Books shop on Earlham St and Artbox in the Thomas Neal Centre. In Dover Books, I can spend hours in there looking through all the art reference books and then spend a small fortune on libraries of obscure imagery I can't live without. When I'm not working I'm quite creative and also collect vintage illustrations and posters, and this little shop is such a source of inspiration - literally millions of images and all free to use! For Artbox - I think I must have a thirteen-year-old Japanese school girl alter-ego because every time I go near this place she makes me buy stacks of super weird Japanese kitsch stationary. I am a total Japanophile and here I can indulge my craving.

What's your favourite eatery or watering hole in Seven Dials?

Food For Thought on Neal Street - their daily cheesy veggie bake is always so good, and their scones are amazing, as are their brownies. I even have their cook book, but mine never turn out as good.

What makes Seven Dials so special for you?

I have a lot of childhood memories of Seven Dials. I used to come shopping as a teenager and always just loved hanging out here. I shopped in POP Boutique A LOT and amassed a huge collection of vintage bits and pieces. I also love the eclectic mix of stores like Mysteries, which is another one I remember giggling with my friends about having psychic readings at. It's got everything you could want in a shopping destination and a great villagey atmosphere.
